Opaline: Victorian Fainting Couches

Victorian Fainting Couches

Since fainting couches have the kind of bohemian chic we love, we're re-running the Hi*2*Lo look at Victorian chaises that's also up on our sister site, Nook.

Not long ago, an over-sized, Victorian fainting couch played a starring role on Mad Men by allowing Betty Draper to spend an afternoon in full swoon. Her interior decorator fiercely disapproved of it, but we've been thinking about luxurious antique chaises ever since.

Fainting couches -- also called napping couches, day beds and (in French) a recamiers -- are definitely having a moment in the spotlight. We rounded up a few (all green, for some reason) and though the colors choice doesn't vary much, the sure prices do.
