Weekend Project: Covering Paperback Books

Saw this smart project at the Crafts Department, a blog written by Martha Stewart's crafters. The idea is to make bright, garish paperback novels look prettier by covering them in semi-transparent vellum.

It's a great way ensure that the titles and spines are still readable, while toning down (and smartening up) the gaudy covers usually found on beach reads, thrillers and chic-lit. One of their readers also commented that she covers her paperbacks with clear, removable contact shelf paper, an option that's probably less expensive and more practical.

We love how it can transform beloved, but shabby paperbacks, as well as protect hardbacks or coffee table books.
Best of all, it can unifies and subdue the look of a bookshelf.
